What to wear to work, this fall:
I believe this post speaks for itself.
This time of year (although the weather has been surprisingly warm lately) your scarf is as much a part of your look as your blouse, skirt or pants.
So why not work it into your outfit to maximize your look throughout the day?
And as for the body chain, it was a custom made piece by up and coming Toronto fashion designer, Seema Patel of Armour by Seema
How are you keeping warm and stylish this fall?
This look is a blend of some of my favorite fall colours:
The purple wool skirt: Femme de Carrier
Dark Green turtleneck–Jacob
Scarf: Heritage (downtown Bowmanville, ON)
Body chain: custom design from Seema Patel lead designer of Armour by Seema
Foot wear for this look⬇
Dressing it up
Pumps: Tommy Hilfiger @ Marshall’s
Dark plum tights: Anne Klein @ Marshall’s
(I’m a big fan of coloured tights)
Dressing it down
Boots: Marc Fisher @ Marshall’s
What to wear to a job interview, the power suit:

La Femme Suit
Nothing like looking professional, put together and feminine all at once…and on a dime!
Spy vs. Spy
This sharp blazer, shell and skirt ensemble were a steal from Femme de Carrier’s end of season sale!
Although it is well past Labour Day, I will be working this white linen blazer, with structured shoulder pads and matching white linen shell, or paired with the black and white blouse from part I of this series.
Does anyone strictly adhere to the “no white after Labour Day rule?”
Ensemble–Femme de Carrier (70% off end of season sale)
But it’s all in the details
The beauty of any great outfit is in the details.
This suit has some great accent points that are eye catching, however, not distracting. The gold accents at the single button on the blazer, and the exposed industrial zipper on the skirt I pair with a gold watch or earnings.
The collar accent button on the black and white blouse, is accompanied by the Brooks Brothers necklace with clasp atop the button.
Bringing it all Together
The best part of a black and white wardrobe is that you can mix and match for days and never run out of winning combinations.
Release the Hounds
Although buying my work clothes at a grocery store makes me chuckle sometimes…
JOE fresh brought out their A-game this fall…
items such as $6 tights in every Colour and fall blouses as far as the eye could see drew me in…
and this houndstooth blouse had me sold!
Black and white houndstooth blouse–JOE fresh (Queen St. West location below WINNERS and Loblaws)
Black linen skirt–Femme de Carriere (70% off end of season sale)
Necklace–Brooks Brothers (30% off)
This series is inspired by my stylish co-worker Rachael who takes her Black, White and Grey wardrobe to the next level.
As you are all well aware by now, I love C-O-L O-U-R, however, black, white and grey ensembles can be timeless, season-less and work appropriate.
I hope you enjoy this series, and don’t fret Colour enthusiasts I’m bringing it back in a few!
Black and white blouse–Femme de Carrier, Fairview Mall (70% off end of season sale!)
For this top in taupe and orange check the link: https://caniwearthattowork.wordpress.com/2012/05/21/neutral-is-summers-new-black/
Black linen skirt– same as above
Black & white jacket–Theory (this jacket is my new fave thing, it is comfortable, breathable and always work appropriate)
Silver necklace–Brooks Brothers (30% off, comes with a matching bracelet, coming soon!)
Although this post is not part of the “Inspired by Mrs. O'” series…She looks fab in this adorable black and white polka dot dress
This lovely deep watermelon double mesh dress
(Yes, I said double mesh…as in two layers of mesh material is all this gorgeous dress is made out of)
was a total steal at Femme d’Carrier with the 50% off everything in the store SALE!
And YES I can wear that to work…it’s light, comfortable and very wearable for the office.
Also available in Black, but they’re moving fast.
Why wear black, navy and dark grey 12 months a year to the office when the varying shades of neutral maintain a professional look while allowing your summer wardrobe to experiment with colour!
However, I would ask that you all weigh in on whether or not KHAKI SUITS are work appropriate? I find them a tad casual any thoughts?!?
Top $67.24 Femme de Carriere (regular price $100.00, right now it’s on sale for 30% off)
Skirt $41.40 Jacob (with 30% off at Oshawa Mall, not yet on sale at other locations, also comes in black…can’t recommend this skirt enough it fits so well and was reasonably priced)
Necklace $14.00 Jacob with 30% off
Sweater $49.00, Tank top $21.30 Jacob with 30% off.
Necklace and skirt same as above
(belt purchased at H&M several seasons ago)
Shopping Tip: if you’ve got the time it’s worth it to shop around
The second outfit shown was originally $300.00 I scored it for $164.00
I originally purchased the second outfit shown from JACOB in Oshawa Mall even though both the skirt and tank top were the wrong size just to take advantage of the 30% discount. The entire outfit was approx $164.00!!!
I then went to the JACOB in Fairview Mall, after calling to confirm that they had my size, and they did the exchange with the discounted price match, even though the items were not on sale there.
JACOB is a chain store that will price match any discount you receive from another JACOB so hang onto your receipt for 2 weeks.
While in Fairview to exchange my items I popped into Femme de Carriere just to take a look and found the lovely stone and orange colour block top, that just happened to be on sale as well. So that whole look just came together and I purchased 5 neutral pieces for my summer work wardrobe for less than the cost of the JACOB outfit at regular price!
Happy shopping ladies
